SCIE in Wales
The Welsh Assembly Government provides a grant which supports the continued provision of high quality knowledge about what works and the provision of evidence and research-based services and resources to social services leaders and practitioners in Wales. These have included during 2015-16:
- Participation in the work of the Social Care Wales Advisory Panel and its sub groups as required. This includes membership of the research sub group.
- Working closely with the Care Council Wales during the period of transition to Social Care Wales and support the implementation of the Social Services and Well Being Act (Wales).
- Making constructive links with the School for Social Care Research, Wales.
- SCIE’s website
- Social Care Online
- Digital resources: video, learning materials and information resources
SCIE has also sought to extend the paid for work that it undertakes in Wales and is working with Swansea City Council to provide a train the trainer session for their staff who will then deliver dementia training to all staff working for the council.
Wales is represented on the SCIE board of trustees by Mario Kreft, who has worked in the Social Care Sector for 25 years. He is a provider of domiciliary and residential care services based in North East Wales. He is Chief Executive (Honorary) of Care Forum Wales (CFW), a professional association of primarily independent sector care providers and care professionals. He is the founder and proprietor of the award-winning Pendine Park care organisation which he set up in Wrexham in 1985. In 2010 Mario was honoured by the Queen who appointed him an MBE for his services to social care in Wales.
