Integrated health and social care 2020: research

Research to inform the next phase of the government’s plans to integrate health and social care by 2020.

The government wants to see the integration of health and social care by 2020. Every area of England needs to have a plan in place by 2017.

The Government has commissioned the Social Care Institute for Institute (SCIE) to undertake a programme of research and engagement with national stakeholders, local areas, patients, people who use care services, carers and families to better understand what excellent integrated health and social care should look like in 2020.

As part of this work, SCIE will research emerging practice on the integration of health and social care in a number of local areas and consult with national stakeholders. The research will be co-produced with people who use health and care services, carers and families.

The research will be informed by an Expert Advisory Group Chaired by Lord Michael Bichard, Chair of SCIE and will inform the government’s future plans for the further integration of health of social care, including the next phase of the Better Care Fund.

Further information about the process will be published on the SCIE website as this project progresses.
