SCIE's networks and partners - Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Lead National Network

SCIE is offering support to this professional network for a third year (2009-10). Previously known as the Approved Social Work Lead Network, the change in name reflects the change in role following the legislative changes to the Mental Health Act made on 3 November 2008.
Mental Health Social workers still remain as the key providers of this crucial role, co-ordinating and conducting Mental Health Act assessments, although increasingly other professions will be trained up to perform this role. The Lead AMHP professionals set standards and ensure Local Authority responsibilities are met in the provision of AMHP services.
In the past SCIE has supported the AMHP Lead professionals network to run events on themes such as:
- the interface between the Mental Capacity Act and the Mental Health Act;
- the key changes in the amended Mental Heath Act;
- and Leadership of social work and social care in Mental Health.
