SCIE's networks and partners - All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Care

SCIE provides administrative support to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Care (APPG on Social Care). The APPG is a grouping in Parliament composed of politicians from all political parties. APPGs include member of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They have no formal place in the legislature, but are an effective way of bringing together parliamentarians and interested parties.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Care is chaired by Joan Humble MP.

Social care workforce inquiry 2007/08

The Group has recently completed an inquiry into the main issues facing the social care workforce. The Group called on Government, its partners, providers and commissioners of care services to raise public awareness of the contribution made by care staff to well-being, and to support staff training and development.

Implementation of the White Paper joint inquiry 2006/07

In 2006, the Group ran a joint inquiry into implementation of the White Paper, 'Your health, your care, your say' with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Public Health and Primary Care. The inquiry, which focused on funding, decision-making and integration of primary and social care service, received evidence from 36 leading social care and health organisations.

As a result of the inquiry, members of the APPGs have called for a shift of power from health and social care professionals to people using their services, as part of changing the culture of services and practice.
