SCIE appoints new Northern Ireland board member
9 February 2005
Chair of the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), Jane Campbell, today announced the appointment of Mr John Fenton, to the SCIE board.
Mr Fenton has extensive experience in social work and is currently employed as Principal Social Worker (Children's Services) at the Northern Health and Social Services Board. He is responsible for advising the board on a number of strategic social care issues and has lead responsibility for commissioning local child and adolescent mental health services, clinical and social care governance, and risk management.
Mr Fenton also chairs the Northern Childcare Partnership, a multi-agency group responsible for planning and coordinating early years services. He is a member of, and chair of, various groups including Antrim/Ballymena Local Health and Social Care Group, Northern Area Children and Young People's Committee, Antrim/Ballymena Commissioning Group and Ballymena Local Strategic Partnership.
Mr Fenton will represent Northern Ireland interests to SCIE and will help ensure that local social care practitioners and service users benefit from participation in the SCIE work programme. He comes to the post at a key time as Northern Ireland is now formally included within the SCIE work programme following the signing of an agreement between it and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety.
Under this agreement social care practitioners and researchers in Northern Ireland will have opportunities to participate in SCIE projects and SCIE will provide local practitioners with tools to assist in implementing best practice here.
