Chair of SCIE will stand down in March 2006
16 September 2005
Chair of SCIE Jane Campbell MBE announced yesterday at a Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) board meeting that she will step down as chair in March 2006, a year before her tenure expires.
Ms Campbell was one of the founders of SCIE and has been Chair of the Board of Trustees since its inception in 2001. Under Jane's leadership, SCIE has established an organisational culture that draws upon fundamental principles of inclusion.
Four years on, SCIE is embarking on a new phase in its development - enhancing the range and quality of services it provides to all its stakeholders and responding to the changing needs of government. Ms Campbell feels that this next phase requires a chair who will further raise SCIE's profile and manage its operational growth.
Ms Campbell is keen to turn her attention in the Spring to social policy debates about human rights, life and death decision-making and emancipatory access to health and social care services. She feels that she would not be able to simultaneously pursue these interests and maintain her role at SCIE.
Announcing her decision, Ms Campbell said:
"I have given much thought to this next phase of SCIE's development and my involvement in it. For several reasons, I think the time has come to start thinking about a new chair for SCIE. I believe SCIE has a unique contribution to make to the social care sector through its close involvement with service users, providers and practitioners and its focus on knowledge-based practice.
"I have not taken this decision lightly or quickly. Chairing SCIE is an honour and it is a great privilege to work with so many dynamic, enthusiastic and dedicated people, who share a common commitment to make social care better."
Until March 2006 Ms Campbell has pledged to give her total commitment to SCIE. She will use this time to complete her existing work at SCIE and to assist the organisation in finding a successor.
