Good practice in action: SCIE's annual review demonstrates impact

The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), the organisation responsible for advancing and promoting good practice in social care, highlights the practical ways in which social care stakeholders are using its resources to improve care.

SCIE's annual review 2005/06 - Better knowledge for better care - features case studies from practitioners, trainers, managers, and service users who have used SCIE's resources to further their knowledge and improve their practice.

For example, South Gloucestershire Council have used SCIE's guide on the Carers' Act to support changes in procedures about informing carers and Carewatch Care Services Ltd have improved their leadership and staff development through the use of SCIE's people management resources.

The review outlines the work SCIE has conducted in each of its key work themes: adults' services, children's and families' services, stakeholder participation, people management, knowledge management, using knowledge in social care, social work education and E-learning.

Chair of SCIE, Allan Bowman, said:

"It's crucial that SCIE's resources are practical and useful to the field and ultimately lead to better care for individual service users and their carers. This year's annual review shows the positive impact that our evidence-based resources are having on social care practice, learning, commissioning and development.

"We are very grateful to all our partners who have informed our work over the last year. We will be building on the feedback that we have received and improving our communications activity to ensure that all those who can benefit from our work are able to access it."
