Social Care Institute for Excellence responds to CSR announcement
10 October 2007
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) calls for effective joint working across health and social care following the Chancellor's Comprehensive Spending Review announced yesterday.
"The increase in funding for social care, healthcare and research is very welcome," says SCIE chief executive, Julie Jones. "In order to maximise the benefits of these increases we need to coordinate how this funding is spent on both social care and healthcare services. Furthermore, investment decisions need to be informed by the knowledge base about what works. SCIE will continue to work with the Department of Health and our partners to develop that knowledge base.
"SCIE is particularly pleased to see a renewed focus on service user control, personalisation, and support for carers and older people. The announcement of a green paper looking at options for reform of the care and support system represents a serious opportunity to raise the profile of social care and SCIE looks forward to contributing to this important debate."
