Putting people first – a landmark agreement says SCIE

10 December 2007

The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has committed to the shared vision for adult social care in England outlined in the ministerial concordat 'Putting people first'.

The agreement cements SCIE’s role as the national organisation responsible for identifying, promoting and disseminating good practice in social care.

Speaking about the protocol, Chair of SCIE and concordat signatory, Allan Bowman, said:

“As adult social care strengthens its systems to facilitate independence, choice, dignity and control, it is vital that social care leaders share a strong ambition of what the sector aims to achieve.

“Evidence shows that person-centred planning, personal budgets and direct payments can lead to significantly better outcomes for adults who use social care services. As we move to implement more of these initiatives, it is important that keep abreast of what works well by listening to those who work in or use social care and by sharing information between us.

“This concordat shows strong cross-government leadership. We look forward to working with our partners across sectors to support delivery both centrally and locally.”
