Social work is central – SCIE’s response to the Children’s plan
11 December 2007
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is urging Government to use the expertise of social workers to realise the aims set out in the Children’s plan launched today.
SCIE welcomes the opportunity for schools to develop accessible information facilities that utilise social workers to offer advice to parents and teachers.
Responding to the plan, Chair of SCIE, Allan Bowman, said:
“Child social workers have clear responsibilities around the areas of safeguarding, looked-after children, parental support and anti-social behaviour. Their knowledge, expertise and experience can bring significant benefits for children and those supporting them – especially when integrated into trusted, everyday settings such as schools.
“The exchange of expertise between teachers and social workers will benefit children and their families considerably. However, it is incredibly important that changes to role of social workers are considered, evidence-based and promote positive workforce development.”
