SCIE seeks candidates for social care leadership programme
12 February 2007
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is recruiting for its second intake to the Social Care Leadership Development Programme.
The programme aims to build leadership skills for senior managers of children's and adults' services in England. Participants come from a variety social care backgrounds, including statutory, voluntary, independent and user-led organisations.
The programme is based around three main modules:
- leadership for social care outcomes
- personal and organisational leadership
- community leadership.
The one-year programme is funded by the Department of Health (DH) and is delivered by a partnership led by Inlogov at the University of Birmingham . There will be three intakes to the programme in April 2007, September 2007 and January 2008 . It has optional postgraduate accreditation.
Director General of Social Care at the DH, David Behan, sees leadership as a major area for social care development in England. Speaking about the programme, he said:
"Effective and inspirational leadership can transform social care organisations. As we strive to develop social care services that promote independence, wellbeing, choice and control, we need a passionate, motivated and engaged social care workforce. Strong leadership is fundamental to this.
"By taking an outcome-centred and inclusive approach, this programme helps to build the complex and distinct skills that distinguish leadership from management. It offers a unique opportunity for senior social care managers."
The programme will cover costs for participants from user-led and community organisations. Other organisations are asked to pay around £1500 to cover expenses.
