SCIE supports NICE expansion

01 July 2008

The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has welcomed the expansion of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to further spread knowledge and evidence, outlined in the Darzi NHS Review High quality care for all.

Chair of SCIE, Allan Bowman, said: “Health and social care need a shared understanding of what constitutes good practice and high quality services. We are encouraged by Lord Darzi’s emphasis on evidence, innovation and standards and we support the decision to give NICE responsibility for managing knowledge in the NHS.

“SCIE has already worked with NICE to produce holistic guidance on areas that cut across health and social care, such as dementia. We look forward to more joint working to support early interventions, stronger leadership and a better use of evidence in all health and social care settings”.
