SCIE announces new strategic plan
14 May 2008
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has outlined its organisational priorities for the next three years.
In 2008 to 2011, SCIE will develop a new framework for identifying and disseminating good and innovative practice in social care provision, as well as strengthening the support it offers via national and regional networks. As part of this, SCIE will develop a tailored work programme for every region of England, as well as within Wales and Northern Ireland.
SCIE will continue to work across adults’, children’s and families’ services. The organisation will work collaboratively to support the new Centre for Excellence and Outcomes for Children and Young People’s Services, while continuing its specific work on the transition from children’s to adults’ services, children in care and disabled children. SCIE will also increase its support to the leaders and managers within the social care sector, providing them with guidance and practical tools to develop their workforce.
Launching SCIE’s new strategy, Chair of SCIE, Allan Bowman, said: “There are some radical changes ahead for all areas of social care. Policies such as the forthcoming Green Paper on the future of care and support, Putting People First and the Children’s Plan set a clear agenda for change and SCIE has a unique part to play in this transformation.
“We now have a strong plan to develop and deliver a robust, clear framework for good practice that can capture and communicate knowledge and innovation and catalyse change in front line services. Our work will be based around priority care areas, including the emerging and ‘difficult’ issues that require clear evidence and guidance, such as personalisation and care for older people.”
SCIE has refreshed its website to support its strategic aims. The new-look website divides SCIE’s work programme into the key themes: adults; children and families; and workforce development.
