Social care entente cordiale

24 November 2009

Agreement between SCIE and its French counterpart

Today sees the signing of a French and British agreement on social care good practice. The international concordat looks at how two similar organisations, using the best available international knowledge and evidence, can work together as key players in the drive to improve quality in social care services.

The two signatories are the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and Agence Nationale de l’Evaluation et de la Qualite des Etablissements sociaux et médicaux-sociaux (ANESM). The purpose of this agreement is to set out how ANESM and SCIE will work together, learn from each other’s experience and build a profile in Europe.

SCIE’s Chief Executive, Julie Jones, says:

“These two organisations are passionate about spreading good practice and will be sharing existing work and emerging thinking. This can only benefit the sector in both countries. It is particularly important in key areas such as dementia care. We can also learn from each other in terms of the best way of disseminating this information. Our aspirations are similar; and social care in France and the UK face similar challenges.”

SCIE and ANESM commit to:

  • Sharing common goals within their work programmes, with a number of potential areas for joint working
  • Seeking out opportunities for widespread collaboration at the European level
  • Both ANESM and the SCIE involve people who use services in their work and are both continually developing the mechanisms they use

In working together both organisations say they will draw on each other’s experience and expertise in service-user participation. In addition, they will build up a range of contacts and visits, as well as reflecting the outcomes of joint working in their respective annual reports and presenting at each other’s conferences.
