SCIE comment on ‘Building a safe and confident future’
17 March 2010
Responding to the report to implement the recommendations of the Social Work Task Force, SCIE’s Chair, Allan Bowman says:
We’re delighted that this report has been published, setting a clear direction for social work. It’s vital that social workers can work confidently and competently with adults and children. Our work on parental mental health and child welfare, for instance, identifies ways of providing services which are accessible and useful to the whole family. Critical to the success of the government plan will be the improving the knowledge-base for social work and of sharing that knowledge to underpin good practice. SCIE will continue to listen to social workers, their managers and to those that use services, to ensure that our products make a real contribution to improving practice.
In terms of the National College of Social Work, SCIE is currently providing the support of our communications team and of our web services, plus administrative support. We are performing this short-term role as a contribution to the setting-up of the College, through the National College Development Group. All interested parties are invited to engage in the consultation from May 2010, which will shape the College’s future direction.
