Effective social care is crucial to Coalition programme
20 May 2010
Responding to the launch of The Coalition: our programme for government, Allan Bowman, chair of the Social Care Institute for Excellence says:
Effective social care is crucial to the delivery of the coalition’s programme – from increased social action and support for small businesses, to long term care and support for families with complex needs. SCIE continues to provide frontline care workers, and policymakers, with practical guidance about what works and we look forward to working with the new government in tackling these issues.
Now more than ever it is essential to know what is effective in order to innovate and maximise the value of limited public and private funding. Quality and efficiency continue to be the big drivers for everyone.
Mr Bowman continues:
We strongly welcome the focus on personalising care, giving individuals more control over the support they receive, and the commitment to improving dementia research and carers’ respite care. Our existing work, including our guides on personalisation, parental mental health, and dementia care will be essential to delivering on these commitments. We are confident that our forthcoming work such as social care and health inequalities, supporting user-led organisations and the use of telecare, will make a valuable contribution to improving the quality and efficiency of care.
