Extra money for people leaving hospital

04 Janary 2011

In welcoming the announcement of extra funding for people leaving hospital, SCIE’s Director of Adult Services, David Walden says:

We know that in these tough times public money needs to be used to best effect. We also know that people want to retain or regain their independence. Today’s announcement is timely because it embraces both of those ideals and encourages health and social care services to work more closely together. Not investing – or even disinvesting - in preventative services, including reablement, is a false economy, merely increasing the need for more significant amounts of care later on.

Our new website pages on prevention incorporate issues such as early intervention and reablement and they help commissioners and providers of services by providing practical advice and emerging messages from frontline practice. Our leaflet, ‘Helping You Through A Hospital Stay’, helps older people to understand and manage the feelings, anxieties and concerns they may have when they are entering or leaving hospital. It’s available for hospitals and social care professionals to order or download.
