SCIE press release
SCIE response to the findings of the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry.
06 February 2013
SCIE's Chief Executive, Andrea Sutcliffe, says:
The Francis report raises issues that affect everyone who cares for people and these conclusions and recommendations should have far-reaching implications in the world of social care. We need to tackle poor care wherever it happens and address the underlying problems that can be caused by deficient leadership, insufficient funding, faulty process, inadequate training or poor communications. The events at Mid Staffordshire remind us of the awful consequences when the focus on individuals is lost, even though we know across the country there are excellent services that are getting it right.
But today is a day for caring staff, managers, commissioners and many others, to take stock, to reflect on what we are doing and how we can do it better. Key to that is working in partnership with people who use services, their families and carers, respecting their rights and valuing their voice and making sure they are treated with dignity and respect.
