SCIE press release
TLAP report, "A Problem shared". SCIE response
06 March 2013
The Think Local Act Personal consortium have today launched "A Problem Shared: Making best use of resources in adult social care". Here is SCIE's response:
SCIE is pleased to have been involved in this important piece of work. As the report makes clear, these are extremely difficult financial times for adult social care and the pressures and expectations are only set to increase. But we need to make sure that we do not lose sight of our ambitions to improve the quality of care and support provided and ensure it is truly person-centred. Having chaired the Use of Resources Steering Group I know how hard this can be and I would like to thank everyone involved for sharing their experience and insights.
The report makes clear that traditional approaches to reducing costs are not sustainable in the long-term and there is not a one-size-fits-all solution. The transformation in adult social care that will be required can only happen if people who are using services, their families and carers, the local community and providers, are involved in developing local solutions together. Hopefully A Problem Shared will help to generate that local debate and I hope that the resources SCIE produces can be helpful too.
SCIE's Chief Executive, Andrea Sutcliffe.
