Prevention service description

NNS aim to reduce social isolation, encourage contribution to, and involvement in, the community, promote health and wellbeing and help improve the quality of life for their members. They do this by providing social activities, a "gateway" to information, advice and support and volunteering opportunities that respond to local needs and demands, so that each NNS will be different. Examples of activities and services provided include befriending, luncheon clubs, trips and outings, exercise sessions, crafts, film clubs etc. More intense and home based support is also offered - with 540 people receiving home based support from their local NNS in 2013/14 and 5,540 receiving one-to-one support including befriending and escorting on shopping trips/outings. Older people help to identify the needs and interests of a community through involvement in management committees, local advisory groups and boards of trustees for the individual organisations. Feedback from members is sought through annual surveys and comments made at annual general meetings (AGMs).
