SCIE consultation response: Creating sustainable communities: Supporting independence

Published: February 2006

Supporting People is a cross Government programme which aims to deliver a number of key objectives and strategies. These include supporting older people (through Opportunity Age), improving life chances of people with disabilities and helping offenders restart their lives (through the Reducing Reoffending Action Plan). The ODPM’s consultation, which closed on February 28th 2006, sought views on how best to integrate Supporting People with relevant local strategies. It also sought to establish how services could be designed and delivered with a better focus on the service user. In our consultation response, SCIE provided evidence around five main issues; ensuing outcome measures are appropriate and useful, achieving a user focus in the planning and delivery of services, giving service users better choice and control, integrating care and support and the appropriate provision of services for socially excluded groups.
