My brief is to ensure that the home is brought into line with the CQC criteria . At the moment the staff take good care of residents and take steps to keep them safe. But the care they are offering isn’t person-centred.
There’s not enough thought given to involving the residents in decisions about their care, or involving them in activities that give their life meaning.
But, most of the families are happy with things the way they are. The home provides a safe environment for their relatives. The staff believe they’re doing a good job. They feel undervalued. They’re demoralised by the prospect of change.
So I want to use an approach that emphasises the positive things about Acorns. I think I’m going to go with Appreciative Inquiry.
