SCIE’s work on knowledge and research in social care
The quality of SCIE’s work depends on a rigorous and transparent research methodology. SCIE has developed a number of approaches that reflect the kind of knowledge available in social care and social work, including systematic mapping, systematic knowledge reviews, and user and carer involvement in systematic reviews.
SCIE also values the involvement of practitioners in creating the evidence base for social work and social care and is a signatory to the Salisbury Statement on practice research.
Social Care Online is the UK's most extensive free database of social care information. Updated daily by SCIE's experienced information managers, Social Care Online offers unrivalled free access and ease of use.
Research Register for Social Care
The Research Register will record social care research that has been subject to independent ethical and scientific review. Research is broadly defined as any activity that utilises established research methods.
Types and quality of knowledge in social care
The knowledge review identifies the main types of research, experience and wisdom that combine to form the social care knowledge base.
The Social Care Research Ethics Committee
The Social Care REC, which is appointed by SCIE, reviews adult social care research study proposals from researchers based in England.
