Am I eligible for SCIE Athens?
Social services staff working for government-funded organisations which provide social care services, or information to support social care service delivery, are eligible to apply for a SCIE Athens account. This covers staff employed by local authorities in England and Wales using a gov.uk email account and includes registered social workers, service development staff, care and support staff, occupational therapists and other practitioners delivering social services.
The SCIE Athens service is also open to staff working for the following organisations, Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS), Association of Directors of Adults Social Services (ADASS), CAFCASS, General Social care Council, The Race Equality Foundation, SCIE and Skills for Care.
Social care staff working in healthcare settings within the NHS are not currently eligible for the SCIE Athens service and should apply for an NHS Athens account (unless they also have access to a local authority email account in which case they can also apply for SCIE Athens and benefit from the resources offered by both).
SCIE’s service is not currently available to social care staff working in the private, independent or charity sectors or to social work students unless they are on placement with a local authority and have access to the requisite email account.
How to apply for a SCIE Athens account
Applications are authenticated by email domain and only a .gov.uk email address is valid.
If you are not eligible for the Athens service, you can still use SCIE’s Social Care Online database which is a valuable source of social care information with some freely available full text material.
