Department of Health (England)

Care Act implementation support

The Department of Health contracts SCIE to develop and share products and services that improve practice and support the implementation of Department of Health policy.

We are currently working with them to support implementation of the Care Act 2014 reforms including changes to safeguarding, advocacy, assessment and eligibility, and prevention. This work is being managed by the Department of Health, the Association of Directors of Adult Services (ADASS) and the Local Government Association (LGA).

SCIE is also managing and supporting a trailblazer programme about direct payments in residential care, commissioned by the Department of Health. Fourteen local authorities are taking part. The final report will be published in 2016, with interim reports in 2015.

Department for Education (England)

Child neglect

SCIE has successfully bid for funding from the Department for Education Vocational and Community Sector (VCS) grant. We are using this funding to develop a training and support programme on tackling child neglect. We previously used VCS grants to develop our now extensive programme on safeguarding audits and reviews – Learning Together.

The Better Care Fund implementation support programme aims to help areas to overcome the barriers to the successful implementation of the Better Care Fund plans across England in 2015/16. The focus is on practical implementation support to deliver better care for the local population.

SCIE is one of the partners that successfully bid to deliver the programme for NHS England, alongside KPMG, PPL and the Berkeley Partnership.
