Child protection + new support services (16 December 2015)

New research from the University of Lancaster identifies the relationship between young motherhood and the risk of court-ordered removal of children. It also recorded a significant increase in newborn children being taken into care.

Parental substance misuse: understanding the impact on children

One of a set of three e-learning modules exploring parental substance misuse, its effects on children and parenting capacity and the implications for social work practitioners. The module explores how parenting capacity may be compromised and how children may be affected by parental substance misuse. Sections cover the child's developmental needs; substance misuse and parenting capacity; and the impact of the wider community context in which the child is living, including using an ecomap to help understand these factors. The resource includes audio, video and interactive technology.
