Parental mental health and families: communicating with families

This e-learning module aims to promote greater confidence in communicating with family members about issues of parental mental health and child welfare. It highlights the importance of communicating sensitively and provides practice examples and communication strategies that can be used to talk to parents about their mental health; to children about their parents' mental health and what that means for them; and to help family members talk to each other.

One of a series of e-learning resources which aims provides a general introduction to the dementia and the experience of living with dementia. This module looks communicating with a person with dementia, at some of the difficulties that can arise, and how to overcome them. It covers helping a person with dementia understand our message; helping a person with dementia make themselves understood; communicating with people experiencing a different reality and the importance of non-verbal communication. The resource contains audio and video. The Dementia e-learning resources were originally released with the title of 'The Open Dementia e-learning programme'.
