Common aims: a strategy to support service user involvement in social work education

This paper outlines a project commissioned by the Department of Health which focused on participation in the undergraduate and postgraduate social work degree. Focusing on how service user and care organisations can develop their involvement in the undergraduate and post graduate social work degree and drawing on successes of the first two years, the paper then goes on to identify existing barriers to successful partnership and possible ways forward. This project was a joint venture between Shaping Our Lives, Department of Health and SCIE.

Contributing on equal terms: service user involvement and the benefits system

This report seeks to uncover the difficulties and fears service users experience in being paid for their contribution to services and those of the organisations who pay them. By revealing the issues and seeking to have them addressed, it will help in laying the foundations for proper and principled user involvement

The road ahead?: literature review

A review of the literature on transition for young people with learning difficulties, families and professionals.The report for the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) brings together the findings from three inter-linked investigations relating to the information needs of young people, their parents and supporters at transition. It was undertaken over a six month period between October 2003 and March 2004 and included: focus group interviews with young people, their parents and supporters; a systematic review of the literature on transition; and a review of the information already available for young people, parents and professionals, including an evaluation of materials by young people and parents. The project was carried out by the Norah Fry Research Centre (NFRC) in partnership with North Somerset People First (NSPF) and the Home Farm Trust (HFT).

Innovative, tried and tested: a review of good practice in fostering

This knowledge review looks at why people foster, how to retain foster carers, how fostering can help children and young people and what fostering agencies can learn from carers, children and birth families. It describes what knowledge is available, highlights the evidence that has emerged and draws practice points from the evidence.
