  • Find Me Good Care extends review service 06 March 2013Open

People can now review any care and support service that they have used on Find Me Good Care.Originally this review option was limited to services with an enhanced listing, but is now being extended to all 30,500 services listed on the site.

“I am delighted that following the experience of our first few months we can open up Find Me Good Care reviews to all services. We always wanted to do this but needed to make sure that we could support this extended service properly. We are now confident we can and I hope this development will make Find Me Good Care even more useful for the public and care providers.”

  • TLAP's "A problem shared" - SCIE response 06 March 2013Open

The Think Local Act Personal consortium have today launched “A Problem Shared: Making best use of resources in adult social care”. Here is SCIE’s response

SCIE is pleased to have been involved in this important piece of work. As the report makes clear, these are extremely difficult financial times for adult social care and the pressures and expectations are only set to increase. But we need to make sure that we do not lose sight of our ambitions to improve the quality of care and support provided and ensure it is truly person-centred. Having chaired the Use of Resources Steering Group I know how hard this can be and I would like to thank everyone involved for sharing their experience and insights.

  • CQC home care report - SCIE response 13 February 2013Open

The Care Quality Commission’s review of home care services has been published.

Whenever a report like this comes out there are things to cheer and things for the sector to work on. CQC say that, despite several similar reports in recent years, examples of poor care do occur all too often. We know from our work that those services which are performing well embrace the following; consistency of staff visiting people in their homes; person-centred care so that people feel dignified and respected; spending time enjoyably with good relationships with care providers; and professional support and development for staff. Crucially, the report recommends that more views and experiences of people, who receive home care, are listened to.

SCIE's Chief Executive, Andrea Sutcliffe. SCIE was involved in the advisory group for this report.

  • Funding reforms and the cost of care - SCIE statement 11 February 2013Open

The Government has announced plans to limit the amount that people in England have to pay for social care

We welcome the Government’s announcements today as an important step along the way for social care funding reform. After so much discussion it is good that the Government is now committed to introducing a cap for care costs and implementing an extended means test. While this does not resolve all the funding concerns in social care, it is significant that these helpful proposals will now make their way onto the statute book.

    SCIE's Chief Executive, Andrea Sutcliffe
