New appointment strengthens SCIE's presence in Northern Ireland

18 February 2010

Dr Shirley Ewart–Boyle has been appointed as SCIE’s Social Care Practice Development Manager in Northern Ireland. This post is supported by additional funding provided by the Department of Health Social Services and Public Safety Northern Ireland (DHSSPSNI).

Shirley says: This is a great opportunity for SCIE to work with key partners in Northern Ireland, to identify and share good practice and to raise awareness of innovative approaches to service delivery. I’ll be promoting the use of SCIE resources by frontline staff and management, supporting the provision of high standards for all people who use social care and social work services in Northern Ireland.

Shirley was formerly a lecturer at the North West Regional College in Northern Ireland and course director for the BSc Social Work programme. She has substantial experience as a residential social worker in children's services and was project manager for the TISO project, an evidence–based approach to the delivery of psychosexual services.

Along with supporting the identification and dissemination of good practice and the embedding the use of SCIE’s resources, Shirley will also support the piloting of SCIE’s parental mental health and residential child care resources.

Shirley took up post on 1 February 2010. Contact Dr Shirley Ewart–Boyle (email:
