Think Local, Act Personal – partnership agreement confirmed as the future direction of social care

Putting People First consortium

27 Janary 2011

Think Local, Act Personal – the sector-wide statement of intent that makes the link between the government’s new vision for social care and Putting People First - has now been finalised as the way forward for personalisation and community-based support.

This document was originally released for comment at the National Children’s and Adult Social Services conference in November 2010. It asserts that councils, health bodies and providers need to work more collaboratively to personalise and integrate service delivery across health and adult social care; and make vital public funding go further. It also recognises the contribution that individuals, families, carers and communities make in providing care and support – both to those who are publicly funded and those who either pay for themselves or rely on family carers.

Twenty-four leading national organisations, including umbrella bodies that represent a large number of providers from the private, independent, voluntary and community sectors are among the first to endorse the document. The finalised agreement is available on the Putting People First website.

Building on a constructive meeting of over 30 leaders from the social care sector last week, a new sector-led consortium to accompany the “Think Local, Act Personal” Partnership will shortly be established.

National Director, Social Care Transformation Jeff Jerome said:

We have set down firm foundations with the work on personalisation in the last few years, and we have a great opportunity to move on to the next phase built around Think Local, Act Personal, reflecting the key themes in the Vision for Adult Social Care.  The work programme will be agreed shortly, but will continue the focus on personalisation alongside a greater focus on market shaping and development of a broader, more diverse range of providers.

Further announcements on the Partnership will follow shortly.
