SCIE press release
Lord Michael Bichard becomes chair of Social Care Institute for Excellence
13 March 2013
Following a competitive recruitment process, Lord Michael Bichard will join the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) as chair in April 2013.
The Crossbench Peer will take over from Allan Bowman, who started as Chair in 2006. Lord Bichard has worked in local and central government and in a range of other roles, from Chair of the Design Council to Founding Director of the Institute for Government.
Lord Bichard says:
I am delighted to be joining SCIE as Chair; I share the organisation's enthusiasm for improving the lives of people who use care and support services and have been deeply impressed by their success to date. I know I'm joining at an important time for the organisation and for the social care agenda, and I also know that SCIE makes a big contribution to the social care sector.
David Archibald, chair of the interview panel, SCIE trustee and Executive Director for Children and Adults for the London Borough of Ealing, says:
We are really fortunate to have secured Michael; he was the best in a very strong shortlist so we're delighted to make such an excellent appointment. The Board looks forward to working with Michael in the very near future.
Outgoing Chair, Allan Bowman says:
I'm delighted that such a strong appointment has been made and I feel reassured that SCIE's future is in safe hands.
SCIE's Chief Executive, Andrea Sutcliffe, says:
It is great news that Michael will be joining SCIE as we enter a new era, with exciting new projects like the contract for the NICE Collaborating Centre for Social Care. Michael brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will help to challenge and develop SCIE as we seek to make a difference to the lives of people who use care and support services.
