Working Together - SCIE response
22 March 2013
The Department for Education has released "Working together to safeguard children: A guide to inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children." Here is SCIE's response
The publication of the revised Working Together guidance marks an important step in developments in multi-agency child protection, following on from the Munro Review. SCIE is particularly pleased to see the emphasis on developing a culture of continuous learning and improvement for all organisations that safeguard children. Taking a systems approach to Serious Case Reviews will support this, as will more regular and routine case review activities.
The SCIE Learning Together programme has, for some years, been a leading application of a systems approach to case reviews of multi-agency child protection. We agree that case reviews conducted using a systems approach can provide crucial information about how our systems are functioning, and how reliably they serve and protect children and their families.

The guidance sets out how organisations and individuals should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and how practitioners should conduct the assessment of children.
