Prevention service description
Developed by Shropshire Council as a Social Work Practice Pilot (based in Shrewsbury initially) in 2011, People2People are now independent of them but still working in partnership. They employ a wide range of staff including social workers; social work assistants, support advisors and occupational therapists. They are a staff mutual social enterprise and have a Board which includes staff members and local people who use services and carers. They have worked with the Council to transform frontline social work with adults so that it is prevention focused and promotes aspirations, independence and capacity.
People looking for information or support in Shropshire can contact the Council staff as a first point of contact (FPOC), who will signpost where possible to voluntary, community or other sources of support, noting details on a Personal Profile. Where it is not possible, the FPOC will transfer them to the Let's Talk Local team at People2People, who will talk through the situation in more detail and suggest next steps (all recorded on Personal Profile). If needs be, they can be booked onto a Let's Talk Local session to discuss further and agree a plan, encouraged to attend a Let's Talk Local 'drop-in' in for information and advice, referred for Housing advice or invited to a small group session (e.g. for family carers) with a peer support volunteer. If the situation is more complex, an appointment can be made with a social worker to visit and complete a Personal Profile Assessment if needed.
