Prevention service description
Originally conceived by a local GP, Dr Opher, who experienced the benefits of drawing or painting on his own health, following positive evaluations in 2012 it was rolled out as an arts on prescription scheme across the county.
Artlift programmes often take place in arts venues, which provide a neutral, non-medicalised environment, free of stigma. They also open up a way into mainstream cultural activities – joining theatre groups, attending shows or volunteering. Many participants go on to run their own groups after the ten weeks have ended.
