Disabled children and young people: extending participation
What is the video about?
In 2008 Bradford City council became one of the pathfinder councils receiving funding from the government's transformation program, 'Aiming Higher for Disabled Children'. This film shows what services can do to help foster meaningful participation of children and young people in service design and delivery.
Messages for practice
- Meaningful participation is key in designing services that are fit for purpose.
- Only by engaging with, and listening to, those who use services, can services become fit for purpose.
- It is crucial to empower and support children and young people to actively participate in service design.
- Nurturing meaningful participation works to dispel and remove stigma around disability.
