Windows of opportunity: prevention and early intervention in dementia

Personal Resources: Carer resilience

Carers’ willingness to continue caring is, unsurprisingly, a powerful factor in predicting whether or not a person will need institutional care. (Philp, I.1997)

This emphasises the importance of nurturing carers’ resilience. Higher levels of perceived self-efficacy in coping with various aspects of dementia are associated with lower levels of depression experienced by caregivers. (Fortinsky R., Kercher K & Burant C, 2002)
