Assessment and eligibility training course

Explore assessment and eligibility determination in relation to an individual’s journey – adult and carer. Learn how to carry out assessments in a proportionate and appropriate manner, using a strengths-based and holistic approach.

Course content

The course covers all aspects of assessment and eligibility determination for adults and carers as outlined by the Care Act 2014.

Assessment

Course content includes:

• recognising when to carry out assessments of needs and carers’ assessments
• preparing for assessments of needs and carers’ assessments
• personal outcomes, eligibility outcomes, needs and ‘products, services and activities’
• holistic, combined and joint assessments
• using a strengths-based approach
• changes in need and fluctuating needs

Eligibility determination

Course content includes:

• how to make an eligibility determination for adults and carers
• providing the necessary evidence for compliance with the Care Act
• understanding options and necessary next steps

Learning outcomes

Attendees will:

• improve their understanding of the current legislative framework and requirements for adults’ and carers’ assessments
• gain a clear understanding of the relationship and differences between eligibility determination and reviews
• be confident in applying the key principles for adults’ and carers’ assessments and eligibility determination
• improve understanding of the relationship between adults’ and carers’ assessments and eligibility determination.

Who should attend?

Social care and health staff working in voluntary organisations, care and support organisations, carer organisations and local authorities. This includes social workers, social work team leaders, care staff, registered managers, occupational therapists and nurses.

Duration

The assessment and eligibility course is delivered over one and a half days.
