Co-production Week 2020
Co-production week 2020 took place from 6 July to 10 July.
Co-production Week was back for the fifth year to celebrate the benefits of co-production, share good practice and promote the contribution of people who use services and carers in developing better public services.
Co-production is about working in equal partnership with people using services, carers, families and citizens. Co-production offers the chance to transform social care and health provision to a model that offers people real choice and control.
This year, the theme was ‘Co-production in a changing world’.
Co-production in a changing world
Using practical examples and online activity from across the country, we demonstrated how co-production can still meaningfully take place even in a changing and uncertain world. We were delighted to be able to promote Co-production Week online, even if that did mean we couldn't celebrate together in person.
As John Evans from SCIE’s Co-production, Equalities & Human Rights Steering Group put it:
We believe that co-production is more crucial now than ever. One of the inspiring features of this pandemic is seeing how co-production has come into its own in local communities to find solutions to the problems we have been facing. It has been very moving too - seeing the emergence of self-help and mutual groups springing up to make that vital difference to their communities.
With a variety of activities during the week from a number of national organisations, we demonstrated how meaningful co-production can still take place. We showed that, despite the COVID-19 crisis, there are still opportunities to involve people who use services and carers more in how health and social care is designed, delivered and evaluated.
