Understanding carers’ assessments and eligibility under the Care Act training course
Local authorities play an important role in the identification and support of informal carers. People attending this course will learn how to carry out assessments in a proportionate and appropriate manner and will gain an understanding of the requirements and practical application of the Care Act.
Course content
This CPD-accredited course gives attendees greater knowledge of Care Act principles, duties and rights for and in relation to carers.
Content includes:
- how to ensure your assessments are appropriate and proportionate
- the use of combined assessments
- information about young carers and parent/carers in relation to the Children and Families Act 2014
- how to make and evidence an eligibility determination for carers (includes practical working scenarios)
- what to do after assessment: provision of information and advice in writing, support plans.
Learning outcomes
Participants will:
- increase knowledge and understanding of the context and principles of the Care Act and its relationship with the Children and Families Act 2014
- develop an understanding of carers assessment and eligibility determination under the Care Act
- become confident in applying Care Act principles and duties when performing carers’ assessments and determining eligibility.
