Description

Each local authority must name a director-level manager who has personal responsibility for deafblind service duties as part of the Care Act 2014.

This specialist course is offered in partnership with Hi-Vis UK and gives attendees a Level 5 OCN.

Course content

The eight course modules will include:

  • Deafblindness and Care Act assessments including the Level 3 specialist deafblind assessor qualification
  • Market-shaping duties
  • Working with LSPs, congenital syndromes and the toolkit concept
  • Deafblind children assessment
  • Advocacy
  • Safeguarding
  • Legislation
  • Individual complex case study assignment.

Learning outcomes

Participants will:

  • Be able to offer assurance to their named director-level manager of legislative compliance
  • Lead/manage a specialist deafblind assessor team
  • Gain all the necessary insights into the impacts deafblindness has on individuals
  • Understand how key legislation impacts on deafblind adults and children
  • Gather evidence for analysis and make defensible decisions
  • Ensure appropriate level of care and support
  • Protect deafblind people’s human rights.

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at both adults’ and children’s social work and allied care professionals.

Duration

The course is delivered in a very flexible way in agreement with each participant, in bite-sized segments without the need to cram or produce copious amounts of work.

The start date for the next cohort is 15 May, and the duration is based on timings agreed with individual participants for each of the sections except module eight, which is ‘launched’ at the end of module seven when you have as much time as needed to complete and submit the assessment.

Course information

The online course is an open course, attended by delegates from a range of organisations.

Each delegate must book their own space on the course (or be booked by a representative).

We require the delegates full name and email address at least 2 weeks prior to the training or on the day of booking, whichever is sooner.

Clients may pay by invoice, and our team will contact you to make arrangements to pay. We cannot confirm the enrolment of the delegate until we receive all the required information. That is but not limited to: a Purchase Order number from the client finance team, a completed New Customer form which will be sent to you to complete.

For invoice payments, SCIE’s Finance Team will invoice for this training prior to the training taking place. We request that all invoices are to be paid within 30 days upon receipt of invoice.

SCIE does not accept liability for refunds on spaces cancelled less than 7 calendar days prior to delivery, cancellation must be via email to your point of contact or training@scie.org.uk and confirmation of receipt must be obtained. At SCIE’s discretion, SCIE will look to defer your space on to a suitable alternative course if available.

If your space is cancelled at any point, you will be liable for costs incurred up to the point of cancellation at SCIE’s discretion. That is, but not limited to: non-refundable costs, admin time, awarding body registration costs or costs that SCIE cannot recover.
