SCIE consultation response: The role of director of adult social services
Published:July 2005
This document sets out SCIE’s response to the Department of Health’s proposals for guidance on the role of Director of Adult Social Services (DASS). SCIE supports the production of best practice guidance in order to provide a minimum level of consistency across the country in the remit and accountabilities of the DASS. However SCIE is concerned that the proposed guidance does not reflect the messages about choice and control which are described in the Green Paper on adult social care, Independence, Well- being and Choice: Our vision for the future of social care for adults in England (Department of Health, 2005). SCIE feels strongly that there should be a strengthened remit for the DASS to engage directly with service users, carers and service user and carer led organisations.
